Beau is a beautiful, well-loved, two-year-old Alaskan Malamute. He is a treasured member of our family, well-behaved indoors, and recently neutered. He knows commands like sit and "give paw," and takes treats gently.
Beau is fully house trained, fully vaccinated, up to date with flea and wormer treatment. He is never destructive in the home.
Sadly, due to his size and strength, only my partner can walk him. Given our demanding work schedules, we can no longer give Beau the exercise he needs. While we initially hired a dog walker, we can no longer afford this, which is why we must now make the incredibly difficult decision to rehome him.
We have tried contacting all breed-specific rescues, but they are currently full with no space available.
Beau is not an easy dog and requires a highly committed owner.
Vocal on Walks: While he walks well on the lead, Beau is vocal and can be misunderstood as aggressive by others. He's simply loud and can sometimes not respect others dogs boundaries. However, he is just keen to say hello in his loud boisterous way.
Aversity to Travel: Beau hates the car/van due to a traumatic previous rehoming attempt. The only way we are able to get him into the car is after his daily walks. This is a significant issue that will require patience and training.
Grooming: Due to his fear of the car, he hasn't been professionally groomed for some time. Home attempts have resulted in him now having a fear of grooming.
Around Children and Cats: Beau has lived with children and cats but is not particularly good with them. He will chase cats and is often too boisterous around children.
Previous Trauma: Earlier this year, a rescue placed him in a home, but the new owners were not given the full truth about Beau. He was returned after 24 hours, which has been very traumatising for him.
We are seeking this rehoming only out of desperation and love for Beau, as we simply cannot meet his extensive exercise and experience needs. Even with previous experience owning a Malamute and a Husky-cross, we feel unequipped to handle Beau's specific challenges.
Any interested party must understand the difficult position we are in. We will need to be fully involved in the rehoming process, including multiple introductions, meet-ups, and seeing where Beau will be living, to ensure he goes to the right, long-term home.
We are asking anyone who thinks they are suitable for Beau to please contact Saints and Sled Dogs Rescue who will happily compete a home check to ensure you are the right match for Beau. Thank you.
