Description
Ozzy is a 6 years old large sized male dog currently residing in the UK kennels OSH.
Ozzy came over to the UK in 2020 but was surrendered after just one month for growing too large for his owners one bedroom flat.
Ozzy over the next year Ozzy had a total of 6 different homes. This included being privately rehomed against PPTF’s rehoming policy. Most of his surrenders were due to his reactivity and the owners being unable to cope with this.
Ozzy is reactive to strangers and other dogs with the reactivity to dogs being worse. He has improved on this a lot and with high value treats can be distracted from passing dogs and people. We have worked on Ozzy’s reactivity at the kennels and he is improving, he would need continued work in this in the home. He goes out with some of our experienced volunteers. Ozzy is reactive on meets and needs someone who is confident with this and knows how to response as constant eye contact makes him feel intimidated and will make his reactivity worse. He is usually okay with people at the end of the meet but is better meeting one person at a time.
Ozzy does not bite and has not attempted to bite he is just very loud and throws his weight around but he is nervous and this is why he reacts this way.
Ozzy cannot live with children or cats, he has a very high prey drive and will fixate on rabbits, birds and any other prey animal when out on a walk.
Ozzy is strong so needs someone who will be able to handle him especially when reacting. He could possibly live with another female dog after multiple successful meets. Ozzy is friends with Ruma at the kennels and they play together in the paddocks.
0zzy is clean in his kennel and he does walk nicely on the lead when he isn’t reacting.
He is extremely loving and affectionate and loves to play fight and play tug of war with you and is amazing at giving cuddles. He is a big goof.
Ozzy is very clear and is a very trainable dog. He would make an excellent pet for someone who is willing to put in the time and effort for him. He knows sit, lie down, spin, paw, heel, touch and has good recall.
Ozzy is not a fan of the car at the moment. He will bark and try to get into the front so will need further training with this and someone to help him get used to being in the car. This is currently being worked on at the kennels. He travelled to the vets in the car recently and he was really good, he did bark a bit and was quite stressed and tried getting in the front but it wasn’t horrendous and he was manageable, he would still need further work making him more comfortable in the car in the home and we will continue to work on this at OSH.
