Description
Paddy is a 10 year old large Caucasian shepherd-type originally from Romania. He originally came over from Romania in 2018 and was adopted. Paddy came back into the care of PPTF at the start of December 2024 after it was found he was involved in a serious case of neglect. It is unknown for how long this case of neglect was going on for but it is believed to be going on for a few years unbeknownst to the rescues. Paddy was removed from the accommodation on 10th December 2025 and into the care of PPTFs kennels. Paddy arrived with a muzzle on and it was clear it had been on for some time. Paddy had severe matts and knots that were covered in feces. After giving some time to decompress he was taken to the vets to have these removed under sedation.
Paddy has been friendly to all staff and volunteers that have met him. He has begun reacting to some members of the public and members of staff, however, he struggles with hip displaysia and the environment he is in doesn't help this so it is possible this outbursts are due to his pain and lack of comfort. Paddy needs a foster that would be willing to take him in so he is somewhere warm and dry and quiet to see the reality of these behaviours.
Paddy is reactive to visitors in the home and in his kennel, he is believed to have strong guarding breeds in him which would contribute to this. Once he is out of the kennel he is fine he just feels the need to guard his territory. He needs a home with minimal visitors or with someone who can safely separate him and is confident in introducing him slowly. Due to these tendencies he cannot live with children although he has shown no malice towards them.
Paddy is reactive to dogs but can be distracted with high value treats, he needs to be walked with a muzzle in areas that are likely to have off lead dogs or where he can't be given space from other dogs. Paddy can go on group walks however if he sees dogs in the distance he will stalk, paddy can’t share his space with another dog and needs a pet free home.
Paddy is a great emotional support dog, he is good at reading when people are sad and rests his head against there's as a form of support. He is a very cuddly and affectionate boy and just wants to spend time with people. Paddy travels nicely in the car and walks nicely on the lead. He isn't destructive but he wees on his bedding every day. He is very food driven and has the tendency to steal food that is lying around, staff don't attempt to take any food off of him.
